The Current Version of ttf-malayalam-fonts package in repository is 4.4.1 . New version of these fonts are in upstream
download.savannah.gnu.org/releases-redirect/smc/fonts/malayalam-fonts-5.0.1.tar.gz . Please update it .

This release fixes size issues and introduce many new characters

It is also updated on Debian, Ubuntu and fedora. BTW debian now adopted a new fonts naming method. They packaged this as fonts-malayalam , more simple and understandable name

Will be updated asap. Need to look into the name change, seems should be no problem.

Thanks.

Debian & derivatives now uses fonts-foundry-name as package name (their font pakaging policy here http://wiki.debian.org/Fonts/PackagingPolicy)
So their package name is fonts-smc
Pakage here http://packages.debian.org/sid/fonts-smc
which is also accessible through fonts-malayalam

Fedora uses foundry-name-fonts so their package name is smc-fonts
https://admin.fedoraproject.org/pkgdb/acls/name/smc-fonts

Adopting one one of these methods will be the best way i feel
Also it will be good if you can include fontconf xml instructions as seen on debian package

For now, just this package is updated, will discuss in the team to rebuild/update all ttf packages using a new naming scheme.
As alaways, platform packages stay in testing for 7 days, so expect this package in stable by next weekend.
